Paint, Paints and More Paints?

Which paints to use for Fluid Art??

There are currently so many different brands to choose from. Expensive down to cheap. Which ones are best for Fluid Art??

When you first start you might like to use less expensive brands, as, you will find that you most likely will scrape a lot of them and start again. So, using a less expensive brand makes sense.

As you gain experience I would then suggest to go to the more expensive well known brands. The quality is far better and the end result will show that.

Which brands do I like the most??

Here is just a list of some of the brands I use. -

Amsterdam

Mont Marte

Global

Jo Sonja's

Artelier

Pebeo

Ofcourse, this is just a very small selection, there are so many more.

Another thing you need to be aware of is their consistency.  Some are very fluid, some are quite thick.  Which is why when you mix them with your pouring medium to make them more fluid for your art, you need to take that into account. All your paints you use for one particular technique need to be the same consistency once you add the pouring medium. That is one little secret which I found out quite quickly. If any of your paints are thinner or thicker it will affect your end result.

As an affiliate for Amazon, I recommend checking out their great range of paints available.

If you choose to purchase any product I also get a small commission. So, please click the link below and check out some of their paints available. At no extra cost to you for doing so.

There are also a great selection of books on Amazon with recipes and techniques to learn.  Here are just a couple I found which might be of benefit to all those who want to try Fluid Art. Click on the pictures for more information.

Dutch Pour Technique

I feel I have got the Blooms Technique done and dusted. A lot of trial and error. But, I get how to do it now. The next technique I want to master is the Dutch Pour.
The Dutch Pour technique uses a different consistency of paint to the Blooms Technique. The paint is of a much thinner consistency. So that it flows across the canvas or whatever you use more easily.
Here is one example I did (below), no way is it good. But, just shows how hard it is to get the paint just right, the art of holding the hair dryer to blow out the paint and so many other factors.

There are a couple of artists who are just wonderful to watch doing Dutch Pours. Kanella Ciraco , Mollys Artistry, Tammy Anderson. I will link their YouTube channels below. Well worth watching them.

I also understand now , that doing a Dutch Pour on a small sized canvas does not give you the room to get those lovely petals that others gain from blowing the paint out. You will see what I mean when you look at the YouTubers who do it so wonderfully.
So, the next time, I am going to go bigger. Let's see how that works out.
This is a small turntable I used. Just practicing so that I can do it on a bigger one for the centre of my table. Lazy Susan they call them here in Australia.
My paint recipe is based on Kanella Ciraco's Aussie paint mix. You can see her video on YouTube on how to mix.
