Hello again Paint Lovers everywhere! I did a Ring Pour this time.
What is a Ring Pour??
A Ring Pour is where you layer the paints in a cup or similar. Then, you pour the paint onto your canvas or whatever you may be using, in a circular motion. It looks like tree rings. You can do a straight ring pour, or, you can use a special "Split Cup" for your ring pour. These are specially made cups specifically for paint pouring. Below is an image of one and a link to where you can purchase them from...
Amazon has a great selection of these split cups - Amazon Store
My method -
First of all I picked the paints I wanted for this pour. I used pre-mixed paints for this one. Much easier than mixing all the paints. They are ready to use straight from the bottle.
Colours used -
Mont Marte - Phthalo Turquoise
Mont Marte - Magenta
Mont Marte- Rose Gold
Mont Marte - Mid Green
Mont Marte - Gold
Mont Marte - Ultramarine Blue
Expression Art- White
You can purchase these pre-mixed paints from Amazon also!
I then prepared my canvas which was an 8x10 inch one. I put tape on the back and put some pushpins in to keep the canvas up off the table.
Next step was to layer the paints into the cup ready to be poured onto the canvas.
What is layered on the bottom of the cup will actually end up being on the top , so, always remember that! I like to layer the colours in contrasting styles to get a more stunning effect. Which is why I like to use gold or sparkly ones in the pour as well.
Now that I have prepared my canvas and have the paints layered, I am ready to pour! I start in the center of my canvas and move my hand in a circular motion to create the rings. For a regular ring pour you can stay in the center with the circular motion. There are other variations too, such as a traveling ring pour, in which you move your hand and the paint in different directions. This is the part of creating art that is unique to each person. You can create whatever design you like! Below is what the paint looks like after I have poured it all out onto the canvas. Ready to tilt to cover the whole canvas....
After the excess paint has been tilted off and you are happy with the final result. You can then pop any air bubbles with a torch or heat gun.
The final result!! Not what I expected. Where did all that beautiful darker blue go?? Tilted off or covered by heavier paint most likely. But, I do like how it turned out. To finish your piece you can varnish it with a good quality varnish. Or, as a lot of artists do these days, put a coat of resin on top. Resin really makes the colours pop!
